Field Artillery Officer Basic Course (FAOBC)
As a newly commissioned Field Artillery lieutenant you will first attend the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course (FAOBC) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
The basic course is 19 weeks and 4 days long and will provide you with in-depth knowledge in the areas of fire support, observed fire, fire direction and platoon leadership as it pertains to the Field Artillery branch.
Your studies will concentrate on learning doctrine, tactics, and organizational make-up of the Field Artillery. Other topics of study will include how to compute firing data for the Field Artillery weapon systems and the procedures on how to call for and adjust indirect fire. You will also learn the responsibilities you will have as an artillery lieutenant in the maintaining and servicing the various vehicles and support equipment that are used within Field Artillery units at the battery level.
When you complete the course you may serve as a one of the following:
You will supervise the maintenance and training in
the unit during your first and subsequent duty assignments.
