A Department of the Army level board will designate a Career Field for each officer once they reach the grade of major. Chemical majors designated into the Operations Career Field will serve as Assistant Division Chemical officer, Battalion Executive Officer, Brigade S3 (Operations Officers), Corps Chemical Staff, Army Staff, and higher-level staff assignments.
