At the rank of Major, Aviation officers are considered for career field designation (CFD). If assigned to another career field, the Aviation officer begins work in that field. If selected to continue in Aviation, the officer is likely to serve as a Battalion-level Executive Officer, Operations Officer, or works as primary staff at Brigade level and higher. Majors can also work in a variety of jobs outside of Aviation.
