Aviation Captains attend the Captain's Career Course and CAS3 to prepare them for Company/Troop command or service as primary staff members. (In Heavy Lift Captains serve as platoon leaders since these companies are commanded by Majors). Following command, Captains can serve in jobs outside of the Aviation branch including -- Recruiting, ROTC instructor, and Military Academy instructor or as an Observer/Controller at one of the Training Centers. Additionally, Aviation Captains may serve in the Army Acquisition Corps, in Joint assignments, or work in an assigned functional area.
