Scout Leader's Course

The Scout Leaders Course places training emphasis on:

• opposition forces doctrine
  
• intelligence preparation of the battlefield
  
• evaluating routes and obstructions
  
• calculating and designating demolitions
  
• command and control of a scout platoon (CAV,IBCT,RSTA and BN/TF)
  
• planning and execution of reconnaissance operations
  
• actions on contact

Students receive two weeks of classroom instruction followed by a rigorous five-day field exercise which introduces students to urban reconnaissance and the multidimensional reconnaissance of a RECCE Scout Platoon.

This course is required for all lieutenants who have successfully completed OBC and who have received assignment orders to a cavalry or reconnaissance unit such as:

•  Cavalry Squadron
•  Brigade Reconnaissance Troop
•  Target Acquisition (RSTA) Squadron
