Armor Officer Basic Course - (AOBC)
Army Officer Basic Course is a 12-week course that consists of training in:
2LT's with assignment instructions to Force XXI units will receive additional instruction on the M1A1D tank, M1A2-SEP, digital communications and command and control systems.
The first section of training consists of exercises to give the lieutenant a foundation in Armor. Following this introduction, he will take part in crew station and maintenance training. By week 5, the Armor Lieutenant has the necessary skills to go to gunnery for the first time. Following gunnery, he will learn the importance of maintenance and tactics. Two months into AOB, the Armor lieutenant will go to the field for a mounted gauntlet-a realistic FTX that incorporates the lessons he has learned in the classroom. Following the Mounted Gauntlet, he will go out on the Tank Gauntlet, an FTX which allows him to interact with captains and platoon sergeants who are also training at Fort Knox.
