Major

At this rank, officers who stay in the branch will be required to complete the Command and General Staff Officer Course. Majors can be assigned to a variety of battalion, brigade, division, corps, Major Command, Joint, Multinational and Department of The Army positions throughout our military. At some point a major should serve a minimum of 12 months optimally 18 months in one of the following branch qualifying positions:

• Battalion/Operations Officer (S3)

• Assistant Divisional Air Defense Officer (ADADO) or SBCT ADAM OIC

Following branch qualification, follow-on assignments include:

• Department of Defense (DoD)/Joint/Army/Major Command (MACOM) staff
• Brigade Staff
• CTC Observer/controller/evaluator
• CGSC faculty and staff
• USMA/ROTC faculty and staff
• Service school instructor
• AC/RC
• Other branch/functional area generalist positions (i.e ROTC APMS)
• Inspector General
