Air Defense Artillery colonels contribute to the branch by serving in a variety of critical assignments. For example, colonels command ADA brigades or Garrisons, head U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery School directorates and serve as systems managers for major weapon research, development and procurement programs. Other positions include:

• ADA coordinator at echelon above corps
• Department of Defense (DoD)/Joint/Army/Major Command (MACOM) staff
• USMA Instructor
• Recruiting Brigade
• ROTC Brigade Commander
• ROTC Region Staff
